Studio Calico-Sock Hop Page

It has been awhile since I have blogged but with working and two little ones, I have just decided to blog as I can. Anyways, I just received Studio Calico's November kit, Sock Hop. I don't usually have time to make a page so quickly after I receive a kit, but I had some time today so decided to dig in.  I just got the main kit this month as my stash has been building, and I really did not need any of the add-ons, though I really liked all of them. I was able to pick up some Basic Grey Fact and Fiction items from Jo-Ann's to go with the kit. (This line is only sold at Jo-Ann's, but some of the items were included in Studio Calico's November kit and shop items.) I also added some items from my stash. I have added links to items included (if available) below the layout.

Here is the layout - a picture of Eli from Summer 2011 (This seems like just yesterday; they grow so fast!):

The title is from my handwriting and then cut from the Silhouette. I wrote the title on a piece of paper, scanned it in and used Photoshop Elements and the Silhouette software to make it into a cut file.  This was kind of an experiment and I liked how it turned out and will probably do this more often.

Scrapbook Layout

I am sharing a "double spread" scrapbook layout - with one side being a full 12 x 12 page and the other being a Project Life photo pocket pages. I shared this for this first time on this blog post and I am still really liking this way of scrapbooking. I am able to do 12 x 12 layouts, which I love but still include more pictures and more stories quickly by using the divided photo pocket pages.

Full Layout
Supplies Used: Patterned Paper-Becky Higgins, Echo Park, My Mind's Eye; Letter Stickers - Studio Calico and American Crafts; Wood Veneer: Studio Calico; Brads & Flair - October Afternoon; Journaling Cards - Becky Higgins' Clementine Core Kit; Becky Higgins Design G Photo Pocket Page; Other - various punches and heart paper clip

Summer of 69 and Project Life

So last week, I completely did not meet my goal of blogging at least once a week...Well, I was sick and so were my boys so I guess that is a good enough excuse. Nonetheless, I am back sharing one of my layouts from the Studio Calico Summer of 69 kit and some Project Life layouts.  I currently working on my March Project Life - yes, March - I am behind but determined to get "caught up".  The good thing about Project Life is it is easy to get back on track - especially if you keep it simple, which is my plan. You will definitely see simplicity in my March layouts I have completed so far. I am about 2/3 done and hope to finish the rest soon.

First, here is my Summer of 69 layout. It actually uses a lot of items from October Afternoon's Woodland Park in addition to the kit.

Supplies: Patterned Paper - October Afternoon and American Crafts; Chipboard, date sticker, and die cuts - October Afternoon; Letter Stickers - Doodlebug Design and October Afternoon; Twine: WeRMemory Keepers; Punches - Stampin'Up and Martha Stewart; Crystals - Prima; Mist - Studio Calico; Other - Shipping Tag

And, now here are my project life pages for March. I am using the Cobalt Kit and keeping it fairly simple this month:

Quick Cards

Today, I am sharing some quick cards I made mostly using the Studio Calico Take Note 6x6 paper pad. I am really not much of a card maker and it is not my favorite crafty project, so I like them to be quick and easy. This is actually the first time I have made duplicates (or very similiar) cards and I like how they came together so quickly. Here are a few of the different cards I made:

Note: The "Cubicles" paper that is included in the Take Note 6x6 paper pad was used for all the sentiment blocks. The ribbon was from my stash. Extra papers were from My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pads from Michaels. The mini staples were from the Tiny Attacher by Tim Holtz.

I hope this gives you some ideas on how to make some quick and easy cards.
Happy Monday!

Project Life Tuesday

For this Project Life Tuesday, I am not really sharing traditional Project Life pages - meaning weekly or monthly layouts. Today, I am sharing how I have been using the Project Life divided photo pocket pages with my 12x12 layouts.

I really like making one page layouts with typically 1-3 photos but it kind of bothers me when the page opposite of it is 1) blank or 2) not the same color scheme. To solve my "issue", I have started putting the extra photos (as I always have more printed than I scrap on a 12x12 layout) in divided photo pocket pages and adding patterned paper and embellishments, so that it "goes" with my one page layouts. I am sharing two of the layouts I have done this way below:

Full Layout 1
Kits Used: Studio Calico July Kit-Elmwood Park and Add-Ons Capture the Flag and Twisty Slide; Additional Supplies: Patterned Paper-October Afternoon (striped); Letter Stickers - October Afternoon (round) and Pebbles (kraft); Journaling Cards - Becky Higgins' Cobalt Core Kit; Becky Higgins Design A Photo Pocket Page and various punches
(Note: Triangles inspired by Lisa Truesdell from the Studio Calico Trendspotting class and "turned over" corners inspired by Becky Higgins.)

Full Layout 2
Kits Used: Studio Calico July Kit-Elmwood Park and Add-Ons Capture the Flag and Twisty Slide; Additional Supplies: Patterned Paper-My Mind's Eye(orange chevron) and Simple Stories (yellow dot); Letter Stickers - American Crafts (yellow) and My Mind's Eye (grey); Mists-Studio Calico Mister Huey in Water Cooler and Powder Blue; Journaling Card - Becky Higgins' Cobalt Core Kit; Becky Higgins Design A Photo Pocket Page and various punches

This is a quick way to show a cohesive look but not have to scrap a double page layout.  Also, if you have extra divided photo pocket pages, this is a good way to use them up.

Hope this gives you some good ideas!

Back at it...

So my last post (before this one) was in April...I have basically abandoned this blog for the past few months, but I am back and ready to start blogging again.  Things have been great...just busy!  As far as my creative time, I have actually had a lot more of it as I have been making it a priority to have time for it...It is good for me to take time to scrapbook - kind of a break from the busy-ness of everything else!  Anyways, I have not been doing much on my Project Life though I have not completely given up on it. I have however been scrapbooking a lot of 12 x 12 layouts. I honestly have not done much of that in the last 2 or 3 years and I am really enjoying it. What really pushed me to start scrapping 12 x 12 layouts again is Studio Calico. I went to their site after looking at some Project Life pages by some of their design team. At first, I really did not think it was for me as everything seemed a little more girly but then I checked out Kelly Noel's and Lisa Truesdell's pages (they both have all boys) and got inspired.  My first kit was 35MM, which was actually more boyish than a lot of their previous kits (from what I could tell) and I loved it! I had so much fun making pages.  I ended becoming a subscriber at Studio Calico with the July kit (Elmwood Park), which I also loved. I love getting all the inspiration from their site - so cool to see how people use the same products different ways - but I also love how I get a sampling of all the new items without having to look at all of them myself and figure out what I want to buy, etc.

So with all that said, I am showing the pages I made with the 35MM kit. Some of these are completely made with the kit and some just have components of the kit. I challenged myself to first do one layout with *mostly* just the kit and then after that, add in my stash.  Any items I used in addition to the kit, I listed below the layout. Here are my pages:

Additional Supplies: transparency file, green cardstock, Lily Bee Designs letter stickers

Additional Supplies: Patterned paper - Echo Park Paper (yellow stripe) and Becky Higgin's journaling cards

Additional Supplies: Patterned Paper - Studio Calico-Take Note 6x6 paper pad (green paper)

Additional Supplies: Patterned Paper - Echo Park Paper (red dot paper and stickers), My Mind's Eye 6x6 paper pad (blue plaid), and Studio Calico-Take Note 6x6 paper pad (white paper); Studio Calico-mask, mist and letter stickers; star paper clip; washi (target)

Additional Supplies: Patterned Paper - My Mind's Eye Follow Your Heart 6x6 paper pad (blue/green plaid and yellow hexagon; Letter Stickers - Lily Bee Designs (off white), American Crafts (yellow) and Studio Calico (dark grey); Studio Calico/Hero Arts stamp; Becky Higgin's journaling card; Stampin Up! ink; blue cardstock

Additional Supplies: Letter Stickers - American crafts (grey and white) and Studio Calico/Hero Arts stamp

I still have a lot of the kit left and pull things from it from time to time. I may revisit it soon as I have time...

My new goal is to blog at least once a week, so I will hopefully be back soon with more...

Project Life Thursday

I am showing my last pages for February today - so glad to be finished with it! Now I just have to start March.  Here is the stack of pictures I have printed for March:

Um yeah, I am going to need to narrow it down some.  I don't usually print this much, but I printed March in two batches due to some deals that Snapfish was having. That caused me to end up with a lot. By the way, I have tried quite a few photo printing places and I really think that Snapfish's quality plus price is the best. They also offer A LOT of deals throughout the year on prints - penny prints, $5 (plus tax) for 100 prints shipped and many other deals.

Ok, well here are my last pages for February.  I actually mixed it up a little bit and used some other products outside of the Cobalt edition.  I used some new 6x6 paper pads I just purchased from My Mind's Eye and some of the Clementine edition.  I really liked mixing in other pieces and will probably continue to do this.

Project Life Thursday

March was pretty busy and then got kind of crazy at the end - my grandpa passed away.  It was expected and he was 92, but it was still very hard.  I now realize that you are never really prepared for death, no matter how old someone is, how bad their health is, etc.  It is just hard.

With that said, it is April and I am busy (who isn't?) but have had some time for Project Life. You can find out more about it HERE.  I am almost complete with February pages and am going to share a few more of those pages. These pages cover Valentine's Day and Eli's 2nd Birthday. I ended up using some papers and products from my stash for those days to give it a more "Valentine's Day" and "Birthday" feel.  I liked using some pink and hearts, as I don't use these often with two boys... Here are my pages:

I am using the Cobalt edition and Becky's Photo Pocket Pages.  I also used one We R Memory Keeper's page protector. I used some other products, including some from Echo Park Paper, KI Memories and My Mind's Eye.

Hope you have a great Thursday.

Project Life Thursday

It has been awhile since I have had a post. Since I have gone back to work from maternity leave, it has gotten a lot busier. I cannot believe it is already almost the end of March.  Where does the time go?

Anyways, today I am sharing the first two spreads from my February Project Life.  I am doing the monthly approach, so I am working on February now.  I still have a lot to go, but it is good to have these pages done.  I am using the Cobalt edition. This month I also added some of the digital elements from the Cobalt and Clementine editions that I bought from jessicasprague.com and printed on matte paper and clear sticker paper.
