SC Lifted Class - Lesson 3

Hi All - I am sharing the layout I made for Lesson 3 of Studio Calico's lifted class. I mainly just used the sketch as my inspiration but added some vellum in as well. (I used some of my hoarded Dear Lizzy gold polka dot vellum - They really need to make this vellum again!!) The picture is not the best ever as I just used my iphone so I could get it quickly uploaded this morning before heading to work... Nonetheless, here is my layout:

I mainly used the SC Double Scoop main kit for this one but added in some items from my stash. The stamps I used on the background are from the Scraptastic Found a Boy stamp set. I have really loved using some of their stamp sets for background stamping. If you have any questions about anything else I used, feel free to ask.

Moving, Working and hopefully now back to "Normal"

Hi all - I haven't blogged much in the last month or two as we sold our house, moved and was in the middle of my busiest time at work. I am hoping that now that October 15th is behind us that now my life can get back to "normal" and I can start blogging again some more.

Even though I haven't been blogging, I have been crafting. I have made a few layouts, some cards and finished up some weeks in Project Life. I hope to share a lot of these over the next few weeks. Here is one layout I made:

I actually started this layout with the Scraptastic I found a boy kit. The colors I used are softer than the overall look of that kit but the papers came from that kit. I don't do well with just keeping to kits but I do enjoy them as a jumping off point.

In this picture, you can really tell that Max's eyes have the same shape of my husband's so I decided to document that on the page. Both of their right eyes open a little less than the left...

The supplies on this page came from various places - a lot from Michaels as well as some Studio Calico kits. If you have questions about any particular item, feel free to ask.

I hope you have a great Friday!

Scraptastic April Kit-Blanket Love

A month or so ago I shared two layouts I had made with the Scraptastic Kit Awake My Soul.  There was some Fancy Pants Design in the kit, but I added some Fancy Pants and Dear Lizzy from my stash as well to make the layout below. Eli absolutely loves his blanket - cannot really sleep without it - so this photo was a perfect reason to scrap that about him.

I cut the "love" with my silhouette cameo. I really like using script fonts in my titles and a big reason why I bought the cameo.

Some of the die cuts and paper are from Dear Lizzy 5th & Frolic - Still love that line and how well it mixes with a lot of the other lines I own.

I was out of the letter "A" on my sticker sheet from Basic Grey so I needed a substitute - This @ flair from Studio Calico was perfect and I like how it adds "more" to the title. I also used the Anchors Away paper from Fancy Pants Design again - I can't stop using it - definitely one of my favorites!

Hope you are having a good week! Thanks for stopping by!

Layout using Shimelle's Sketch

I made this layout back in April using a sketch I saw on Shimelle's website.  Here is the post with the sketch and the sketch I used:

When I work off of a sketch, I usually just look at the sketch and then go make my page. I rarely refer back to it so I usually make some changes along the way. For example, on my layout, I used one photo instead of three, and my journaling went below my title instead of in the box on the left side. I used some items from the Scraptastic April Kit - Awake My Soul as well as some other items from my stash. The background paper was from Dear Lizzy's Neapolitan collection - It felt good to use an "older" collection :) Here is the layout with some close ups:

You can see most of the products I used HERE at Two Peas.

Scraptastic - May Kit

I am sharing a layout I made with the Scraptastic May Kit - Destination Unknown. I challenged myself to make a page with just the kit. Let me tell you - I really struggled with this! I did use some punches and it probably would have helped if I would have used my Silhouette cameo...especially for the title - but I didn't. I ended up cheating a little and using some extra thread for the "baby" in my title. This is mainly because I messed it up the first time and had to cover it with the tag...lesson learned - do not try stitching for the first time on an almost complete layout :) I also had to add the paper at the bottom with the journaling as I smeared the original journaling...

Anyways, here is my page with some close ups:

Basically, I have learned that for me that limiting myself to just the kit can actually take me longer than adding in my stash as I need it. I know a lot of people do better working with limited supplies..but it actually was more time consuming for me and a little more frustrating!  I haven't picked the kit back up yet - probably b/c this one was such a struggle, but I hope to use it more soon AND use my stash with it :)

Project Life-Week 9 2013

I am sharing Week 9 of my Project Life today. I used Glitz Designs' Color Me Happy this week, as well as a lot of other products (I really did not realize how much different product I used until I started linking items!) The Color Me Happy line is such a bright and fun line! I also used sequins for one of the first times (I have used sequins on one or two 12x12 layouts before) and I pretty much fell in love with using them! Someone on the Studio Calico message boards wrote that they used them like enamel dots...This was kind of an "ah-ha" moment for me so I thought I would try it, and I loved the results...plus they are less expensive than enamel dots. I was able to find a huge pack of assorted sequins at my local Michael's. I think they were $2.99 but may have been $3.99. They were in the kids craft area in case anyone wants to look for them. I also used the sequins from Studio Calico's Atlantic collection - love that there is woodgrain sequins in the pack!

Week 9 Spread

Left Side
I tried to stamp more and use more die cuts from my silhouette cameo this week. My key to using the die cuts is to cut them out before hand. Usually when I am cutting one shape for a certain project, I go ahead and cut some other basic shapes or words that I know I will use later.

Right Side
I really like the woodgrain stars in the bottom left corner. They remind me of these stickers in the SC Main Scrapbook Kit-Spencer's. I used an old star punch and some wood grain paper. Then I stapled them with the tiny attacher...Super easy.

To see most of the products I used this week, here is a link to my project at Two Peas. Some of the items are not carried at Two Peas so here are links to some of those items:
-Studio Calico Labels (these change each month with the new kits that come out)

-Rated Journal Card from SC PL Kit Spencer's

Scraptastic April Kit

I am sharing two of the layouts I made *mostly* with the Scraptastic April Kit - Awake My Soul.  This was my first kit from Scraptastic, and I really enjoyed working with it.  I am not the best at just using the kit - but I challenged myself to try and stick to the kit as much as I could with the first layout.  I ended up doing OK with it but couldn't resist adding some washi, a tag, a doilie, and some stamps...

I also ended up *accidentally* challenging myself: I worked on these layouts at my parents' house when I was staying with my grandmother some when she was sick. I typically scrap at home and have only been to a crop one time, which was over 5 years ago. Needless to say, I am not used to traveling with my scrapbook supplies. I did fairly well with the amount of supplies - I think I brought 3 12x12 Iris Scrapbook cases and a few supplies in my bag - but I forgot one main item - My trimmer! Due to my grandmother's condition, I really couldn't leave the house, so I was stuck. I luckily found a ruler and I had my scissors, so I started with that.  A little bit into my first page, I was able to get a hold of my little brother who told me where a box cutter was - so I used the box cutter, a ruler and a mouse pad for my cutting. It worked out fine but was a little slower than just having my trimmer! All that to say, if you notice some uneven lines, please just ignore!

Here is the first layout I made:

And the second layout:

So far, I have made a couple other layouts using the kit as well as some of my other supplies. I will share those soon...Thanks for stopping by!

Friday Favorites

Here are my Friday Favorites for this week:

Studio G Stamp Set - available at Michael's

I picked up these stamp sets at Michael's for $1 and really like them. They are only $1 so they are not the best made clear stamps; however, they have worked great for me, especially with the Prima Chalk Fluid Edgers - These inks work great with all stamps, including the cheaper ones. They have some other designs too, but these were my favorite.

Ormolu Exclusive Flair Set Awake My Soul - Sold by Scraptastic

I got the Awake My Soul kit from Scraptastic (and will be sharing layouts made with it early next week) and it came with this exclusive flair set. I absolutely love the star flair and the woodgrain flair.

Anchors Away 12x12 Paper from Fancy Pants' Down by the Shore Collection - at Two Peas (currently sold out) and Scrapbook.com

I know some people are not really sure about the anchors, but I have to say that I really like them. My parents own a ski boat so I do have some boating pictures, but I have already used this paper and it was not on a boating layout. I think it goes well with everyday pictures if you do not have any with a boating theme.

Studio Calico Snippets Chipboard Stars - at Two Peas and Scrapbook.com

I really like Studio Calico's Snippets line overall, but my favorite piece of it has to be these chipboard stars. They are very versatile and can go with a lot of different lines. Also, being a mom of boys, stars are one of my favorite shapes to use.

Bow Ties 12x12 Alphabet Stickers by Basic Grey - at Two Peas and Scrapbook.com

This is not an alphabet I would normally buy myself, but I received it in the Scraptastic kit Awake My Soul.  Suprisingly, I loved using it, and it went great with the papers in that kit. Most of the papers were from Fancy Pants Trendsetter and Dear Lizzy's Lucky Charm, which are two of my favorite collections from this CHA release. I also like that the letters are thick enough to add foam squares underneath so you can get dimension if you want it.

Can you tell I am loving Fancy Pants' lines from this winter release?? They actually have two mid-releases that I love as well and I can't wait for those to come out!

Well, that is all for this Friday - I hope you had a good week and I hope you have an even better weekend!

Scraptastic Card Challenge-Crate Paper Party Day

Yesterday, I saw a thread on Two Peas message board about Scraptastic kit club. I had heard the kit club mentioned before but did not know much about them, so I went to their website and was really impressed with their kits. I absolutely LOVE that you have the choice between two kits each month and the reasonable price - $25 a kit for subscribers. I also really liked their stamps...so very cute. The current month's kit "Wake My Soul" kit was my favorite, but it was sold out earlier yesterday. Well, I ended up checking last night, and they are restocking it...I was surprised as I didn't know kit clubs did this but thought it was great. I ended up buying the kit this morning and signing up for the kit club. I also bought the "Everyday is Like Sunday" stamp set. I resisted buying any other stamps but all of their stamps are super cute!

I made it over to their blog and saw they had a Happy Birthday card challenge. I happened to have just finished a birthday card for my sweet nephew, Will, who just turned 2. (Will, if you are reading this, don't look so you will be surprised by your card ;) ). So I thought I would link up to the challenge. I used Crate Paper Party Day for the card and my favorite pop dots (you can see those HERE.)
